You were expecting an update on Babysaurus, rite? But this post is about the absent minded stuff that  Mommiesaurus did today:

1. told Daddysaurus to take the parking card from Mommysaurus' car before walking out the door, then walked out the door, loaded the boot and drove off without passing the parking card to Daddysaurus!

2. was suppose to go by the bank to run an errand on the way home but decided to do it after lunch and on the way back to the office - got to the office later and then realised had forgotten to do that errand! doh!!

sheeeeetsss... now Mommiesaurus forgot what was item no. 3....???? Can you tell that there are alot of things on my mind?

oh the other day, wore a close toed pair of shoes to get mani and pedi done - DOH! good thing Daddysaurus was kind enough to drop off a pair of slippers....

now what was no. 3????

ou yea! wasted a bottle of pumped milk today - pumped and then forgot to put it in the fridge before heading back to the office. DOH!

Stickers

Making our own stickers for Babysaurus's upcoming first birthday party:

Its quite a therapeutic process! And what cool stickers we have. Cheapo mommiesaurus couldn't bring herself to pay the prices the shops wanted when she could so easily produce some of her own at home. With some sticker labels, a color laser printer and a computer at her disposal - she's on a sticker making frenzy! There's no stopping her now!

PS - sorry been quiet. Mommiesaurus has been super uber busy!!! :( spending more time than she likes in the office. Sigh!

Catfight

Looks like she got into a catfight in her sleep!

She woke up with those scratches on the left side of her face this morning - above the eye, across the cheek, above the ear and some small ones at the neck.

Checked her nails and found the culprit - middle finger nail was chipped and super sharp!

Maybe tats why she woke up last nite?

Bumpity Bump

Following from Mommypixie's post on Isla.X's bump on the head, Mommiesaurus felt she should share about Babysaurus' first bump as well. About 2 weeks ago, Babysaurus got her first bump from crawling towards the kitchen high table and trying to climb up the table leg. Having gained mobility and is now pretty good (or so she thinks anyways) with pulling herself up to stand, she was trying to do just that by pulling up at the kitchen table leg. And Babysaurus somehow slipped and Mommiesaurus wasn't quite in the right position to catch her, so her head took a little bit of a knock against the table leg.

And then shortly after, she developed what Mommypixie called the biggest and most nerve wrecking bump on the head! Babysaurus' wasn't quite bump on bump, but it was bump on mozzie bite, being the same spot where a mozzie had had its meal earlier on.

But Mommiesaurus didn't quite think too much of it, blaisely calling it "ho mou lau"in Cantonese, which translates to 'high rise condominium', as she was quite easily distracted from her crying after getting the bump.

Then the following day came, and it looked like the swelling was spreading downwards towards the nose bridge.... oh uh! alarm bells started ringing and Daddysaurus said maybe we had better get her checked out, in case it was something else, or something else was happening under the skin. y'know how when paranoia starts in your head, it doesn't quite know how to stop itself.

Anyhow, we took her to a paed's clinic that was near our home, instead of trekking all the way to the hospital to see her normal paed. The paed took one look at her and reassured us that it was normal, and even explained to us the different layers of the infant's skull by showing us a picture and basically that it was no reason for concerns. Phew! He said that it was also quite normal for the swelling to "move" (can't remember the correct medical term he used now) and as long as it resolved itself, she was fine. Sometimes, if the bump was around where the veins/blood vessels are quite superficial, ie, near the surface of the skin, babies could end up with what looks like a horrible bruise too!

(I tried to google for the same image that the doc showed us, but came across some horrifying images instead, so I stopped quite quickly after... so, sorry fellas, no images here).

So, my take away from this experience is that babies develop "high rise condos" quite easily.

Mommy Abuse

Is there a mommy abuse bureau? Mommysaurus wants to lodge a complaint.

No sleeping from the hours of 2.30-4.30am. Or rather you're only allowed to shut eye for 3 minutes before you have to open the covers to get out and pick up Babysaurus again.

Then you have to open your eyes at 7.15am to see Babysaurus already on her tummy, crawling towards Mommysaurus.

And then she bites Mommysaurus' arm three times!

Ok! ok! Mommysaurus gets it - she's saying "open up your coffee shop! I am thirsty!"

To add to the complaint case - she's already sprouted one top front incisor.... *rubs bite marks sorely on arm*

May Day! May Day!

Sorry haven't been updating... Babysaurus has been busy traveling in the month of December and Mommiesaurus feels like she needs a holiday from the "holiday" with Babysaurus. 

So here's a quick post. Babysaurus is starting to pull up by holding onto the railings of her cot... aiyo! see picture... here she in a kneeling position trying to figure out the balance and to put weight onto her feet. With some help, she actually manages to pull herself up to a standing position although she's not worked out how to balance on her feet. And Mommiesaurus' wrist is really feeling the strain from all keeping her upstanding... Daddysaurus has now lowered her cot another notch.

Other updates: she's now crawling forwards! And starting to crawl towards Bubbles, the doggie in the house. Bubbles is not liking it that her space is getting invaded by this small little shrieking human being.

'Me' Time

Got to thinking about 'me' time the other day while chatting with another new mommy. We were talking about how it was important to get some 'me' time once in a while, even with new baby around. She was saying how she had only just gone shopping for herself after so many months since arrival of baby. She was in the same boat as me - breastfeeding had brought about the arrival of new boobies. So new tops/blouses were quite crucial needs for the wardrobe.

But I joked that shopping for our stuff quickly becomes shopping for baby stuff, as their stuff were so much more exciting, and so much cuter! :P

So 'me' time turns into baby time, even when baby is not around! Although one could argue that shopping  is therapeutic irregardless of who you are buying for.

My 'me' time consists of the following activities:

• extended shower times. where I don't have to rush out to rescue Babysaurus from Daddysaurus' arms when she's crying; 
• quiet time spend surfing. usually early in the morning when am awake to pump while both Babysaurus and Daddysaurus are still sound asleep, I get so spend some time surfing the internet. 
• running. I try to run about 3x a week for about an hour at least each time and this is definitely some 'me' time that I get to daydream about things. I realise that my back is also less sore and feels 'looser' (vs being tight) after a good pounding on the road... aaaa... 

Some other stuff that I would like to spend some time on: 

• a pedicure. whether DIY or at the saloon. toes nails have been looking rather pale and ugly. usually I do my own, as I have a set of OPI manicuring tools that I have invested in, but I have not had the time to sit down and just fix up them toe nails. 
• restart my jewellery making. ya, what seems like a once a time ago, I used to make jewellery and sell them as a hobby. I wouldn't call it a part time business since the money I make from it merely covers what I spend on buying raw materials! Anyhoo, been looking at some really delicious looking jewellery trends and wish to let loose some creative play to make bib necklaces, chunky bracelets and big bold earrings. 

What do you moms do for 'me' time?


P.S. also wanted to proof a point about the irony of this blog post being about 'me' time but it was in draft since 1 Dec 2010. 

Dinner....

What a feast. They were cooked and pureed earlier on and frozen into ice cube trays. So we just mix mix for Babysaurus what we want to feed. Running out of combination ideas though!

Verdict. Liked it! Finished everything.

Update. Substituted potato + chicken for a brocoli cube and that didn't go down so well.

Colouring her poo....

hehe.. I reckon that's what the weaning process should also be known as. For close to 6 months, Babysaurus' poo was a mustard yellow, a sure sign of a healthy breastfed digestive system, despite some incidences of green here and there. But mainly a liquidy, watery yellow - just like the kind made by Heinz. hehe... :P

Eversince we've started solids, her poo have taken on other hues.

Orange - pumpkin.

Green - avocado.

Purple - sweet potato.

You can really tell what she's had for the day when you peer into her potty. This is because she's still on single foods to clear foodstuff off the allergy list.

Yesterday though, she had sweet potato in the morning and then pumpkin later in the day. Sure enough, her poo started out purple and ended up orange! hahaha... here's the proof (warning! please do not scroll down if you are reading this while having your breakfast):

... ALREADY!?

okay okay... i know i know... will stop with the time flying by and all that jazz... we start to sound like our parents or the older folk saying things like, "my, how you have grown" and "when I saw you last, you were so little!".

But I understand where they are coming from now. Babies/kids grow up right before our eyes. Overnight, first teeth sprout, new skills are learnt. So what more, for those who haven't seen the child/children in question for a while.

Her weaning progress: she's started taking solids 2x a day now. And she seems to be sleeping better at night. I should correct that - she's sleeping longer and mommy gets to sleep better :). Except last night (there are always exceptions, rite?!). After her last feed at about 10.30pm, she kept rolling over in her cot and waking up. Until 12am, she kept waking up, in a good mood, babbling to herself and wanting to play. Luckily, she could be lulled back to sleep quite easily each time. But finally, the last time, at 12am, I carried her to sleep on our bed and let her sleep there for longer, instead of putting her immediately back in the cot. Ended up only putting her back in the cot at 2.30am. and she slept till almost 6am.

I digressed from her weaning update to how she slept last night. oops!

She had stewed pear for the first time this morning. Liked it! Kept smiling while having it. Unlike applesauce over the last couple of days.

Beansprout

Not quite a bean la... Babysaurus has sprouted another tooth! Another front incisor in her bottom jaw right next to the earlier one. wow - so fast. Maid noticed it while she was screaming while we were out in the morning.

She's growing up so fast. Mommy can't help but lament feeling like she's not needed much anymore... unlike when Babysaurus was just a teeny newborn and all she wanted was to be attached to mommy... or more specifically, mommy's boobie.

Never really mentioned this before, but Babysaurus was born with an imperfection. She was born with a blocked tear duct (almost typed milk duct - whoops!) on her left eye. Everytime she tears, her left eye gets all crusty. Sometimes she wakes up and her left eye lid is stuck together like glue, cause of the dried tears. We've always had to clean it with some warm water during her bath times. The doc has advised us to continue massaging the side of her eye to dilate the tear duct and after about 6 months - it looks like it has finally cleared up!

She was screaming all the way home from her grandparents' house last nite in the car and when she got home, I noticed that her left eye was pretty clear despite all the tears that would've flowed. Instead, there was a big boogga in her left nostril! haha... hence I conclude that her left tear duct has opened up!

If you were in the room next door to the baby room (that's usually my father-in-law, wonder what he thinks is going on...) where I sometimes feed Babysaurus, the above is the kinda of monologue one is privy to.

Since she's started rolling over, she does it anytime she's placed on her back, yes - including while I'm trying to nurse her. aiyo.

Since she's gotten better at grasping things, she likes to close her little fingers around the boob while she's feeding. Earlier it was just placed there, kinda like she's holding the boob while she feeds, now she just wants to grab at it, and she has a rather strong and SHARP grab, what with her very sharp nails.... oouuuuuchhhhhhhhhhh....... have little scratch marks to prove it.

She can also raise her legs up in the air and grab her toes while she's feeding... what a multitasker. hahaha..... takes after her mom (in terms of multitasking ability la)

I had a draft of a milestone update blog post in my phone, which I had started but never got to finish. And then had some other thoughts in my head to put into words since then but never got to it.

Have read that six month old babies are a joy to be around - they are smiley, social, makes cute noises and not quite mobile yet so they will still kinda stay where you leave them. And that's what Babysaurus has been the past week or so! She is getting quite fun. :) Here's a quick run down of what's happened so far:

Rolled over! 
Yupps.... on 28 October 2010. She convincingly rolled over unassisted from back to tummy! and there's no stopping her now. wants to roll over when trying to change her, roll over in her sleep (and wake herself up!), roll over while nursing. She's started getting quite strong and in the span of a week or so, started getting quite proficient getting on all fours, and doing some kinda of a leapfrog like movement. Very cute. She's only going backwards now but think she might be on the move rather soon *gulps*.

Started solids
Started her last weekend, with Bellamy's Organic Baby Rice. So... official weaning begins. :( Not sure I like that word as it implies some sort of a separation process between mommy and baby. Anyhoo, she was quite adventurous, ended up finishing the 2 teaspoon meal of baby rice cereal. :) She also attempted to eat the bowl when it was brought too close to her face. hehe... all in all, a successful first solids meal, I would think. Since then, she's had avocado (didn't like it as first, but got to like it at the right consistency), banana - well it's only been a week and we're adhering to the 4-day gap.

Cuts her first tooth
One tiny but sharp little fella on the lower front. She was gnawing on Daddysaurus' hand when he felt something sharp and when we checked - it was there, alright! haha... quite cute - and bit difficult to get a photo of at the mo.

Went swimming
She's gone "swimming" in the bathtub at her grandparents' house before but since she was getting too long for the depth of the bathtub, thought we might give it a try in the big pool. Was worried about chlorine and dirt in the pool, but figured it'd be cleaner than any other public pool. The first time, we got her half a body in the pool before she started wailing. hahaha.... I put it down to being already slightly tired plus the water was cool - even for me when I went in. AND, she was naked, like how she was when we put her in the bathtub.

The next try - she went into the pool! With a one piece zip up swim suit, kinda like a rashie wet suit and her neck floatie. It was earlier in the day, so it was warmer but not sunny. But her enthusiasm seemed short lived, as she kinda looked like she was ready for the next pool soon. haha...

That's all I can remember for now! Hope to be more updated with her developments!

Losing Control

Ever felt like you were losing control over your body? I hear aye's all round as you recall that conversation you had with your thighs telling them to shape up and grow longer, instead of sideways?

I guess having little control over one's body is experienced by all walks of life but I've never felt less in control of my body that now, 6 months post partum with Babysaurus.

The boobs
What?! Am now 2 cup sizes bigger than before I was ever pregnant? They've become Boobysaurus! How is that possible? But it is, as I was just out shopping for bras... again! Have not bought so many different sized bras in such a short span of time in my entire life. New bras were needed when pregnancy set. Then in the third trimester, I also bought a couple of nursing bras just to have them ready for use after delivery. No - they were not the right size when milk came in. Yes - bought more new nursing bras about a week after delivery. And, just went to get some normal bras, just because sometimes it's nicer to wear non-nursing bras, eg., like going to the office or going out for a nice dinner (happened once so far).

Mind you, I don't have a thing for bra shopping, okay. And heck, they are definitely not anything you would see on any of Victoria Secret's shows lar - falls off their scale of boring and unexciting-ness. Apparently, am right on track in terms of how the boobies are changing, according to some information from Bravado Designs.

The feet
Sigh, my nice shoes - they all don't fit anymore. Almost 6 months post-delivery, while am still hoping that the old shoes would fit (now I know how Cinderella's step sisters feel), my single pair of open toed shoes are starting to looking a little (actually, a lot la) worn. If my grandfather saw them, he would've asked if I had no money to go buy new shoes. So after the bra shopping, think I may have to start getting some new shoes so that I can look a bit more decent and less like a maid when I go out with Daddysaurus and Babysaurus.

The hair
It's still falling out. When is it going to stop? Seems like Babysaurus' hair has stopped falling out so much and she's actually started growing a new crop of hair. It looks really cute, she's got that fresh crop plus some stray strands that are long like lalang which survived from when she was born. Back to my hair... still falling out and still coarse-like in texture. Can't do much with it and have it up most of the time anyway because Babysaurus pulls at them when it's down. Adds to the maid-like look.

So... others may be able to have some sort of control over their body issues by changing their diet and/or starting an exercise regime, that's not gonna help me in any way with any of the above. boo!

Broken Pump!

You know how I've been meaning to get a new breast shield for my pump since this post, I hadn't! And the breast shield gapped open this morning when I meant to pump. :( It started with slightly less suction when it was on the 1st stimulation phase. There was some let down so I pressed the let-down phase button on the pump. But no milk was coming out... Checked that the valve was connected properly (happened once before where there was no suction because the valve was not pressed in completely) but there was still no suction.

Crappers!

As I had anticipated, the joint where the soft part of the breast shield connects to the hard part had opened into a small hole, so air was escaping, thus preventing the suction from happening.

Crap! Crap! Crap!!!!!

Breast was full too, as it usually gets after sleeping through the night. Plan B - feed direct! Carried her from her cot to the bed.... whipped it out, but her mouth was clamped shut! She had already fed off the other full boob before I had tried to pump. What an unco-operative pump. :(

Okay, plan C then. Figured I may be able to use the breast shield from the Mini Electric pump to fit into the Swing (both Medela pumps) to use temporarily. Having taken it out, realised that the Mini Electric does not come with a detachable breast shield that can just be attached on to the Swing. Aiyo!

Ok ok, plan D! Will just use the Mini Electric to empty the boob first. OMG - I had totally taken for granted about how quiet the Swing was. The Mini Electric sounded like a mini lawnmower! So, I released Babysaurus from Daddysaurus' hold and then carried her back to her cot from the bed before trying it again. Nope - still mini lawnmower. My hairdryer was quieter than this pump.

Moved everything to the other room to pump. I had kinda drafted a blog post in my head when I first got the Swing (when Babysaurus was about 2 weeks old) to compare it to the Mini Electric, but never got round to it. No better time than now.

The Mini Electric, other than sounding like a mini lawnmower, was akin to those supped up Protons you meet once in a while on the road - very loud but doesn't get you very far very fast. Eventhough boob was full, the Mini Electric was barely getting any milk out. So loud - maybe milk ducts get scared and clamp up! It's also not as gentle on the boob like the Swing, actually it's downright harsh! The Swing also has the dual phase pump function. It starts off with the stimulation phase which are quicker suctions before going into a slower, longer suction phase when let-down happens. Was a bit doubtful when I first read it on the product description while still pregnant and hadn't yet started the breastfeeding journey. Now, I can honestly attest that babies do have 2 phases when feeding from the boob. And while the Swing is more gentle, it does pump out more milk and without hurting your boobies too, unlike the Mini Electric. Plus, I have to really press and massage the boob in all angles to get any milk out on the Mini Electric. Thinking back, this probably added to why I felt like such a cow in the first month of Babysaurus' life.

To cut it short, I only managed to get about 1oz out of the boob before giving up. Boob was slightly less engorged and will have to do until I get Babysaurus to go on it when she wakes up or till I go get the breastshield from the Medela office (need to check what time they open).

Btw, you have to get it from the Medela sales office (they don't stock it at the retail places, well, they didn't have it at Robinson's). They are located at:

Costs RM40 for the breastshield. So ya, still sitting here with boob full as I write.

Moral of the story:
If you are serious about breastfeeding, get a good quality pump, eventhough they are costly. You don't want to manhandle your boobs and damage your breast tissue. Slack breast tissue = saggy boobs + affects milk production (so I've read). If you can afford it, go for the double pumps - they save time! This would be a definite plus point for me now.

Even better - get those handsfree kits. Then you can pump both boobs at the same time + do other things - check your emails, catch up with friends on chat, etc! You can get compatible handsfree kits, I saw them at Bebehaus @ BV, but I haven't tried. I only have 1 pump after all, so can't vouch for their effectiveness.

Milestone!

She  rolled from her tummy to her back today! THREE TIMES! UNASSISTED! But no more repeat performance after that.... she's decided that she's gonna crawl now that she's rolled over from her tummy.... hahaha... Daddysaurus was not in time to catch this epic moment. So still waiting for her to do some rolling over here and there on her own. She does get frustrated after moving her arms and legs all over place and not getting anywhere.

Also, took out her new set of pj's that I bought when she was just a whee teeny little thing, at a little over a month old. It was a 6-9 month size set of long sleeved footed rompers. When I got home and took it out of its packaging, I thought they must've gotten the size wrong. The leg parts of the suit were so long that I thought Babysaurus would have to be at least a year old before she would be able to fit into the whole length of it!

Anyways, the romper still looked too long when I just placed it on Babysaurus. Nevertheless, we put it on for her after her evening bath and yes - it was still too long, but only just slightly! And it even looked a little bit too fitting at her upper thighs when the buttons were done up! Oh my! Babysaurus oh Babysaurus... where has my little baby gone?!

Haha... she does look a little bit more comfortable in it compared to the 3-6 month sizes. The smaller size looked like it was keeping her from being in a fully stretched out position as she grew.

Those have now gone into her clothing 'museum'.

My bones are weary, my eyes circled black, my body aches and my bones crack each time I make any sudden movements. 

But when you look up at me and meet my eyes, my heart melts and I forget how tired I am. 

And when your face breaks into a smile in recognition of me, I feel like I've gone to heaven and back. 

ahhh... *bliss*... 

But please please please please don't start crying after that.... 

Babysaurus Gets a Passport

This is what we did to get Babysaurus a passport:

After (almost impossibly) finding a carpark spot in Pusat Bandar Damansara, put Babysaurus in a sling and carry her upstairs to where they process passports. This is on the middle block at the far side, behind where McDonald's is.

Go and get Babysaurus' passport photo taken at one of the many shops that do passport photos. Here, put Babysaurus on a high stool while Mommysaurus sits on the shorter stool to hold Babysaurus up.

Get told by all the lovely kakaks that Babysaurus is "sihat-nye".... yah, she's Babysaurus ma.

If you haven't already done so, get copies of Babysaurus' birth certificate photocopied. You will also need a copy of Mommysaurus' or Daddysaurus' I/C for the passport registration. You can do it outside the shop that does the passport photos.

Go up the escalator to the first floor, proceed to the furthest counter on the right to get a form from an officer.

Fill up the form, attach copies of birth certificate and parent's IC to form and stick one Babysaurus's first passport photo on the form.

Proceed to counter 8 (if not mistaken), to show the officer all the documents you have who will then give you a number.

Sit down and wait to be called so that Babysaurus can make a payment for new passport.

After sitting for a while, walk around with Babysaurus in sling to where the fan is to stay cool, while checking out the other babies.

Meanwhile, call Auntysaurus, who works nearby, to come and entertain Babysaurus and buy McDonald's for Mommysaurus while they wait.

After payment, come back with Babysaurus in an hours' time.

Bring Babysaurus to collection counter so she can pick up her first passport!

Breastmilk Storage Bags

Just an update on breastmilk storage bags since this post. Found this brand from Korea in Bebehaus at Bangsar Village. Looks ok - pre-sterilised and everything. More expensive too, RM45 for 30bags. Think ones by The First Years were RM49 for 50 bags*. But definitely still cheaper than Medela breastmilk storage bags - RM89 for 20 bags(!!).

Also the lady at the shop said that you could use the Little Moms bottles in the freezer as well. We have a dozen of those. They store up to 5oz per bottle. We got them in a pack of 6x5oz bottles and 2x2oz bottles when Babysaurus was first born. The 2oz bottles were real confidence boosters when I first started expressing. A 2oz bottle almost full sure looks much better than the same amount of milk in a 5oz bottle! :)
